Nakano Broadway is one of Tokyo's best-known places to browse watches, from vintage pieces to current models. The building in west Tokyo is packed with shops. We went on a Saturday to try on Rolex models that an authorized dealer (an official Rolex store, or AD) often cannot show you. If you are new to buying at an AD, read how to buy a Rolex at an authorized dealer in Japan first. This guide to Nakano Broadway watches covers what you can try on, what we learned, and how to plan around the waits. Facts about shops are as of October 9, 2026, from each shop's website.
What can you try on at the Nakano Broadway watch shops?
Short answer: sizes, colors, and older models you rarely see at an official store. The shops are second-hand dealers. They sell pre-owned and vintage watches, and they keep a large stock, so you can compare several watches in one visit.
We tried three things.
| What we tried | At an official store | What we learned in Nakano |
|---|---|---|
| Two sizes of the Datejust (36 mm and 31 mm) | Few try-on watches are available, so comparing is hard | The 31 mm fit Yomecchi's slim wrist better |
| Colors we would normally skip | Few are brought out for you to try | A color we doubted looked surprisingly good |
| A vintage Day-Date, reference 1803 | Not sold new, so not in official stores | We heard some history from the staff |
Even if you have already chosen a model, trying a few options first can widen your choices.
Why do people call Nakano Broadway a watch mecca?
The reason is stock. Watch shops gather on the third floor, and they sell new, pre-owned, and vintage pieces side by side, so you can compare a lot in one place. Some shops sit elsewhere in the building. FIRE KIDS, for example, is on the first floor, according to its website.
Walking through, we saw:
- An enormous range of watches, from current models to vintage pieces
- A shop that sells only watch dials
- A shop that sells empty watch boxes
- Rare vintage watches sitting in the case like everyday stock
Many shops carry other brands too, such as Seiko, Omega, and Longines, including old and antique pieces.
How do I get to the Nakano Broadway watch shops?
The building is about a five-minute walk from the north exit of Nakano Station (JR lines and Tokyo Metro Tozai Line), according to the Nakano Broadway website. We reached it by walking through the Nakano Sun Mall, a covered shopping arcade. Once inside, head for the third floor, where most of the watch shops are clustered.
Which Nakano Broadway watch shops should you start with?
We looked at two popular shops. Everything below comes from their own websites, checked on October 9, 2026. Warranty terms and hours can change, so confirm on the official site before you go.
| Shop | What its website says |
|---|---|
| Jack Road | Located on the third floor of Nakano Broadway. Open 11:00 to 20:30, closed irregularly. Lists English among its staff languages and shows a tax-free shop badge. Main store phone number: 03-3386-9399. |
| FIRE KIDS | A vintage watch specialist founded in 1995. Nakano Broadway store on the first floor (units 140 and 141), open 11:30 to 19:30 with no closed days. Offers a 30-month operation warranty on watches it has serviced in-house. |
If you want to compare many models at once, start with Jack Road. FIRE KIDS is the better stop if you care most about vintage watches.
How long do you wait to try on a Rolex in Nakano Broadway?
On the Saturday we visited, Jack Road announced a wait of over 1.5 hours to try on or check a watch. We could not just walk in and ask to see a watch right away. Many of the other customers were visitors from abroad.
Here is how we would plan the visit:
- Go on a day with no tight plans afterward
- Write down the model, size, and colors you want to see
- Call the store (03-3386-9399) before you go to ask whether a watch is in stock
- Visit other shops while you wait
Datejust 36 mm or 31 mm? What changed our mind
Yomecchi wants a Datejust. Roleo had been pushing for 36 mm, which is also the size he reserved at an authorized dealer. But on her wrist, the 31 mm was the better fit.
| 36 mm | 31 mm | |
|---|---|---|
| Roleo's pick before trying | His pick (the size he reserved) | — |
| After trying on | — | Fit Yomecchi's slim wrist |
We also tried lighter colors and a few we had written off. Many looked better than expected. A photo cannot tell you how a color sits on your own wrist.
What we learned from a vintage Day-Date 1803
The best surprise was a Day-Date on a leather strap. Yomecchi said it looked cute, so we asked to try it. It was a reference 1803, an older four-digit reference (the model number has four digits). It is a 36 mm watch in precious metal, and this generation is no longer sold new.
The staff told us two things. We are repeating what we were told in the shop, not confirmed facts:
- Bracelet adjustment on this generation can require welding. Links cannot be added or removed as easily as on newer models.
- Many of these watches have leather straps. We were told that years ago, some owners disliked how the gold bracelet looked and sold it separately. That is why one still on its original bracelet is relatively uncommon.
How does tax-free shopping work in Nakano Broadway?

Quick checklist
- Pick the model, size, and colors you want to see before you go
- Check each shop's hours and closed days on its own website (Jack Road closes on irregular days)
- Plan extra time, because try-on waits can be long
- Call the shop first to ask about stock
- Bring your passport and check the tax-free rules for your travel dates
Next step: before you go, look at the shop websites in Sources and decide which two stops you want.
